Understanding burnout and decision-making

Front-line workers such as police officers, correctional officers, 911 call-takers and dispatchers, and doctors do emotionally challenging, and sometimes traumatic, work. As a result, burnout, absenteeism, and turnover are particularly high among these professions, which has significant consequences on individual and organizational performance. The People Lab’s current work uses experimental methods to evaluate whether building social supports, strengthening social identities, and fostering community networks can reduce worker burnout, decrease turnover, and improve decision-making.
